2012 Clergy and Church Finance Tax Seminars

Heartspring and the Texas Conference Center for Connectional Resources are working together again to offer seminars on clergy income tax and church finance and legal issues. Additional information is below.

We recommend you register and pay online or by mail in advance to ensure you receive your own copy of the books and other materials, and to ease the check-in process the day of the seminar.

Registration at the door will be available, but extra books and handouts are limited. While we make every effort to ensure we have enough books for everyone, walk-in registrants will receive any extra books or materials on a first-come, first-serve basis. Fees:
The cost is $45 per session or $80 for both sessions. The tuition includes all books and materials.

Content:
The Clergy Session will cover "how to" methods for clergy preparing his/her income tax return, as well as all of the relevant features in the IRS tax code specific to clergy. We also will highlight new provisions and tax code changes.
This session is APPROVED FOR 3 CPE (Continuing Professional Education) CREDIT HOURS.

The Church Finance Session explores church financial issues and legal implications. We will discuss basic church finance and accounting including payroll administration, forms, documents and procedures related to the financial management of churches and related ministries such as pre-schools, parents-day-out, etc.
This session is APPROVED FOR 2.5 CPE (Continuing Professional Education) CREDIT HOURS.


Speakers:
Amy Hume will present the Houston seminars. She is a certified public accountant with more than 20 years' experience in public accounting and serves as principal manager with the UHY Advisors' private client services group. Her duties include tax preparation for businesses and individuals, including clergy. She is married to Richard L. Hume, Jr. a United Methodist minister.

Frank Sommerville will present the Tyler seminars. He is an attorney with the law firm of Weycer, Kaplan, Pulaski and Zuber, PC and has served non-profit institutions of all sizes as a bookkeeper, accountant, auditor, tax advisor and advocate, litigator and legal advisor. Sommerville also is a discussion leader for the Texas Society of CPAs (TSCPA) on non-profit issues. His law practice concentrates on taxation, church and non-profit legal issues, estate planning, probate and related taxation.
